I confess these notes are from memory.
I haven't yet had a chance to extract details from the logs
(which are part of the GPS track noted on the previous page).
Randy
Overnight Cruises
- Sidney, B.C. to Harbor Island Marina, Seattle, WA
Randy and Nick (his future son-in-law) brought the boat back in two days.
This was a great trip.
- a visit to Kirkland, WA
It's only a mile or so to Randy's office from here.
The only problem is that one can only stay three
days out of a week.
If we can figure out somewhere else
on Lake Washington the rest of the week,
we may go there longer next summer.
- trips to Blake Island
- beat the heat
This is a great place to go when it's too hot in Seattle.
- meteor shower
Can't remember of it was the Persiods or Peleades
(the names are sure to have been misspelled),
but we went over to get out of the city lights.
- Labor Day on Liberty Bay (Poulsbo, WA)
There's a long story about water and gunk in the
fuel filter, but we still made it there and back.
Daysail outings
- how shallow!?!?
We were off Magnolia when folks aboard started
looking at sea stars and crabs walking on the bottom.
We really like the shallow draft of this boat!
- how manoeverable?
Just for grins, Randy tacked up the East Waterway.
He would have done much better on his Hobie,
but he was still pleased with the result.
(He's tried this in the West Waterway as well,
but usually had to give up due to other traffic.)
- how fast?
One day it was blowing 25+ knots out of the South.
We were able to reach back and forth at the North
end of Harbor island. The wind was scarcely
attenuated, but the water was flat. We hit 8.8 knots
without a whimper.
- checking out Eagle Harbor
Thanks to S/V Cheshire Cat's shallow draft,
we went back in further than we had ever gone before.
